Company History

United Steel Services Ltd was founded in 1992 operating from depots in Leeds and Darlington and quickly built a reputation based on offering a reliable service and competitive prices.

In February 1994 United Steel Services Ltd became part of the Barrett Steel Group and relocated to the head office at Bradford enabling us to vastly expand our stock range and processing capabilities. As a member of one of the largest stockholding groups in the country we are able to deliver nationwide to meet all our customer's requirements.

With over 120 years experience of the steel industry in our sales team, it is our aim to live up to customer expectation by offering an unrivalled stock range, competitive prices and a delivery service that is second to noe.

Products and Services

We hold stocks of over 8,000 tonnes of general steel at our Bradford site in addition to numerous associated products including Handrail & Walkway products, Tubeclamps, Wrought Iron components and the Qrail Stainless Steel balustrading system.

Our in house processing facilities comprise 13 saws, shotblasting & priming plant and a drill saw line. All of this means that we are in a position to meet the needs of all steel users from those requiring a few bars cut to size to large structural users wanting cut, drilled and shotblasted & primed sections.

We operate a fleet of 28 vehicles ranging from pick-up trucks to articulated units capable of carrying 29 tonnes allowing us to offer a fast and reliable delivery service.

The Barrett Group

The levels of service provided from our Bradford site are enhanced by being part of the Barrett Group of companies, which is one of the largest independent steel stockholding groups in the country.

The group consists of over 25 general steel depots along with specialist sites for Tubes, Precision Tubes, Engineering Bar and Profiling holding in excess of 80,000 tonnes of stock. With all of our sites having cutting capability and seven of them housing shotblasting and priming plant the Barrett Group offers large stocks and high levels of service across the country.

In addition to the investment at our Bradford site in a new Saw/Drill Line and Shotblasting and Priming facility we have invested heavily in the infrastructure of our group. Our new Omega Steel site specialising in the processing of structural sections represents a £6 million investment in some of the most technologically advanced machinery available today. We have also added a Jumbo Laser Tube cutting machine, which is the largest one in the country and the only one able to cut tubes over 550 mm wide and 18 m long, to the existing three laser tube machines at our specialist Tubes site.
